Moscow, Russia

Growing up during the Cold War and having served in the military during that time, I always wanted to travel to Russia.  My experience did not let me down.  The Russian people were very friendly, well educated, and very religious.  I was to continue from Moscow on train to Odessa, and then to Kiev to visit Chernobyl.  However, an experienced happened in Moscow that gave me a concern of traveling 25 hours on train as an American, so I canceled the remaining trip.  That story...is for another time!  But I got the nickname of "007 1/2" by friends due to the experience! :-)

Below are photos from my trip to Prague for Christmas

Moscow- Park of Soviet Monuments

My trip was to see the remnants of the Soviet time period.  One of the visits was to the Park of Soviet Monuments.  At the end of the Cold War, many of the monuments were defaced.  However, to preserve history, a park was created across from the Kremlin.

Moscow- "Great Patriotic War Museum" (WWII)

My trip being for Soviet History, my tour guide took me to their WWII Museum in Moscow.  To the Russians it is called, "The Great Patriotic War."  It has recently been opened and was very moving.  When you walk in, there is a painting of the Soviet and American Soldiers shaking hands.

Moscow- Monino Air Base

About an hours drive outside of Moscow is the largest display of aircraft in the world at Monino Air Base.  During the Cold War, this was a major air base for the Soviet Union.  The display of aircraft is from prior WWII to the present.  Many airframes look similar to Western, and even German from WWII.  One of the helecopters is a model of the US CH-46 that was created and used from Vietnam by the US Marines until 2015.

Vladimir and Suzdal, Russia

My last trip while in Moscow was to Vladimir and Suzdal, Russia. These places are very important to the Russian people due to their history and the Christian Orthodox Church. A truly neat experience for me on this trip was to think of being so far east and watching the sun set...which is my last photo.
